Message r is maintained in the same direction. In the stock location, the air hitting the closed throttle body plate reverses direction in order to exit through the stock location. Then, when you open the throttle, it has to reverse direction one more time.

If they were in the location you mentioned, then the momentum of the air would keep going towards the intake manifold.

Of course, the mass of air is almost nothing, so the difference is probably not measurable.

Blitz sells hardpipes with BOV flanges at that location, BTW.
